Cruel Training of Nepal Elephants Exposed |

So-called "elephant joyrides" are anything but joyful for the elephants who are forced to undergo them. A PETA-commissioned investigation of elephant training in Nepal revealed that elephants who are used to give rides are physically and emotionally abused every step of the way.
When they are just 2 years old, baby elephants are torn away from their loving mothers and tied up out of their reach. The frantic babies cry and struggle for days to reach their mothers, who are also tethered. Elephant calves are restrained during "training" for as long as 14 hours at a time with heavy chains and with ropes that cause painful burns. |

Great news for animals! The Ministry of Environment and Forests has drafted new animal protection laws to replace the outdated Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. The new draft – the Animal Welfare Act, 2011 – would provide animals with greatly enhanced protections, including increasing the penalty for a first offense of cruelty to animals from a minimum fine of 10 rupees to a minimum fine of 10,000 rupees and/or two years' imprisonment. The draft also includes other exciting changes, including more specifics about what constitutes animal abuse. |

Dogs often die in the 1,150-plus-mile race from hypothermia, pneumonia, gastric ulcers, accidents, beatings, and "sled dog myopathy"—literally being run to death. Twenty dogs used in the Iditarod have died since 2005. On average, more than half the dogs who start the race don't make it across the finish line, and 81 percent of those who do finish have lung damage, according to a report published in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine. |

Petition gegen die Ferkelkastration |

Obwohl das Bundestierschutzgesetz in Österreich es verbietet, Tieren unnötige oder ungerechtfertigte Schmerzen zuzufügen, ist es an der Tagesordnung, dass Ferkel bis zum Alter von 7 Tagen ohne Betäubung kastriert werden.
Nun gibt es erste Überlegungen seitens der Gesetzgebung, dies zu ändern, allerdings wieder nicht im Sinne der Tiere. Es sollen lediglich Medikamente nach der Kastration gegen Schmerzen gegeben werden, nicht aber vor der Kastration, um diesen Schmerz erst zu verhindern.
Der Tierschutzverein Robin Hood fordert ein Verbot der Ferkelkastration und den Einsatz von Alternativmöglichkeiten, bis dahin aber eine wirkungsvolle und andauernde Schmerzausschaltung bei der Kastration. |

A dog-sled company in Whistler, British Columbia, ordered the killing of 100 dogs in April, 2010, when bookings for adventure tourism slumped after the Olympic Games.
Vancouver radio station CKNW obtained documents revealing that 100 healthy sled dogs were killed in a mass slaughter at Outdoor Adventures Whistler last April 21 and 23.

Iditarod - The Worst Case Of Animal Cruelty In The US |
|
Please help end the horrific treatment of dogs. Imagine the suffering dogs endure while racing 1,000 miles in the Iditarod with wind-chill factors as low as minus 50 °F, battered by hurricane force winds, over slippery ice, down steep gorges with drops of hundreds of feet, and through icy water with little or no rest. At least 142 dogs have died in the Iditarod, including two dogs on a doctor's team who froze to death in the brutally cold winds. What happens to dogs during the race includes death, paralysis, frostbite (where it hurts the most!), bleeding ulcers, bloody diarrhea, lung damage, pneumonia, ruptured discs, viral diseases, broken bones, torn muscles and tendons and sprains. |

Dies würde weltweit den Tod zigtausender Kaninchen, Meerschweinchen, Ratten und Mäusen in den Labors der Kosmetikindustrie und ihrer Zulieferer bedeuten. Der Deutsche Tierschutzbund, der Bundesverband Menschen für Tierrechte und die Ärzte gegen Tierversuche starten daher heute zusammen mit ihren europäischen Partnern in der Europäischen Koalition zur Beendigung der Tierversuche (European Coalition to End Animal Experiments, ECEAE) eine EU-weite Kampagne und rufen die Bürgerinnen und Bürger auf, die Petition „Nein zu Tierqual-Kosmetik“ zu unterstützen, die dann öffentlichkeitswirksam den Entscheidungsträgern übergeben werden soll. Ein Tierheim wird von einer kommunalen Organisation geführt. Tierschützer haben keinen Zugang auf das Gelände.
Katastrophale Zustände, keine Kastration, Krankheiten. Kaum Möglichkeiten einen Hund zu kaufen.
Tiere werden eingeschläfert. Eine Zeitung hat darüber berichtet. Es gab eine Konferenz und alle durften diese unglaublichen Zustände erleben. Diese Organisation, die das schreibt wurde nicht eingeladen.
Das Theim soll versteigert werden. Die Forderung der Tschüzter - nur an Torgas versteigern lassen
Der Präsident der Stadt ist anderer Meinung.
Diese Tierfreunde geben nicht auf und werden diese Sache per Gericht klären.

Jean D'Arc was a severely disabled dog living in Tekirdag, Turkey. She was a double amputee stray dog living in the Tekridag animal shelter. She had two adoption prospects one in Istanbul and another in Germany. The day they went to the Tekirdag shelter to get her, the volunteers learned that she disappeared. This was 10 days ago. Drei Initiativen sind bislang gescheitert, weil die haarsträubenden Gesetzes-Vorschläge zu erheblichem Widerstand geführt hatten. Erst im Sommer 2009 konnten wir Senator Franco Orsi stoppen - er hatte unter anderem eine Ausweitung der Jagdzeiten, Jagd in Schutzgebieten, mehr zum Abschuss freigegebene Arten und den Jagdschein für 16jährige vorgeschlagen. |

Es zeigt in erschütternden Bildern und Tönen, wie für Millionen von Schweinen und Kühen die letzten Stunden ihres Lebens ablaufen. Es ist die Hölle auf Erden.
Dabei verlangt der Gesetzgeber in der Tierschutz-Schlachtverordnung, dass bei den Tieren "nicht mehr als unvermeidbare Aufregung, Schmerzen, Leiden oder Schäden verursacht werden" und dass dafür Sorge zu tragen ist, "dass ein rasches und wirksames Betäuben und Schlachten oder Töten möglich ist". Die Bilder des Videos zeigen auf grauenvolle Art, wie dies in der Realität aussieht.

Die aktuellen Ereignisse im Zirkus Krone machen deutlich, wie wichtig ein Wildtierverbot in Deutschland ist. Bereits 2003 hat der Bundesrat die Bundesregierung einstimmig beauftragt, einen Entwurf zu erarbeiten, der die Haltung von wildlebenden Tieren (insbesondere Affen, Elefanten und Bären) in Deutschland verbietet. Während europäische Länder wie Österreich, Dänemark, Schweden, Bulgarien u.a. längst ein Wildtierverbot ausgesprochen haben und namhafte internationale Wildtierexperten, (Direktoren von Zoologischen Gärten, Tierärzte, Verhaltensforscher etc.) sich darin völlig einig sind, dass ein reisendes Unternehmen nicht in der Lage ist, für eine artgerechte Tierhaltung zu sorgen, leiden die Tiere in deutschen Zirkussen Tag für Tag weiter. |

On October 6,2009 this 6 week-old kitten was tortured to death in Pennsylvania. A group of men threw rocks at her and then put lighter fluid on her back and lit it. As you can see her whiskers are burnt,but so was her entire back.
She was rescued by an animal control officer,but later died from her injuries.

On Wednesday May 27th, a pit bull in West Baltimore was doused in gasoline and set on fire as a crowd of onlookers watched. A police officer patrolling the area happened to come upon the scene and quickly sprang into action. Risking her own life, she put the flames out with her sweatshirt and got the dog immediate emergency care. Officer Teel later described the horrifying incident. She said she had never heard an animal actually scream in agony the way this dog had. Reports indicate that spectators were actually laughing as the dog burned. Phoenix, as she was later named, suffered burns on 98% of her body. |

The treatement of horses in Romania is pure cruelty. It is inhuman and shameful. Horses are working very hard during a whole day at the end of which they get no food or very little. The growing numbers of abandoned and free-roaming pets (especially dogs and cats) have become a problem in some European states. More and more we are confronted with horrific news about and pictures of animals that have been poisoned or otherwise killed and animals who have been subjected to terrible abuse. Animal welfare activists have been trying for many years to improve the situation for strays and have made great personal and financial efforts to do so. Within the affected countries the legal protection of pets is either missing, completely inadequate or rarely implemented.

Mehr und mehr Pelzprodukte kommen auf den Markt und es wird immer schwieriger, zu unterscheiden zwischen tierfreundlichen synthetischen Pelzen und Echtpelzen aus oft tierquälierischer Zucht. Konsumentinnen und Konsumenten sollen wissen, ob für ihr Pelz ein Tier leiden musste, von welchem Tier er stammt und aus welchem Land er kommt. Nur so können sie verantwortungsbewusst entscheiden.

Protect Phuket Dogs From Systematic Extermination |
|
Die Hunde in Phuket befinden sich in einer Sammelstelle, gesunde und kranke Hunde
zusammen, ohne medizinische Versorgung. Futter erhalten sie vom Müllfahrzeug, das den ganzen Tag in der Hitze durch die Gegend fährt. Das Futter ist verdorben und die Hunde sterben.
Entsorgt werden Hunde über Müllkippen, oder man überlässt sie ihrem Schicksal. Die Petition bittet um ordentliche Versorgung der Tiere und vielmehr/oder um Schliessung dieser Sammelstelle. |

Auf der Kunstmesse "Bienal Centroamericana de Arte" in Managua liess der "Künstler" Guillermo Vargas im August 2007 öffentlich einen Hund verhungern. Tragisch genug, dass kein Besucher den Mut hatte, das Tier zu retten - doch noch schlimmer ist es, dass die Verantwortlichen der Kunstmesse Vargas gewähren liessen.
